Where are you?
We have 3 areas the main area being the Workshop in Portswood. We also have a Farm in Durley and a Shop in Woolston.
When are you open?
Monday to Friday 9:00am - 3:30pm.
How Many years has SSPW been running?
Since 1993, Set up by Jim Parker as a Work Type Day Service.
How many staff do you have?
We currently have 9 staff, 7 male and 2 female, 1 of which is part time.
Is 1.1 Support available?
Yes if it is felt necessary. We also offer 1.3 and 1.5 support.
Can I attend with my own support worker?
Yes this is possible and your support worker will be expected to get involved.
Is transport provided?
Yes transport can be arranged for service users attending a full day at sspw. Cost will depend on location to the workshop.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes we have insurance to cover us for all the activates we offer.
Do you provide lunch?
No, Service users are expected to bring a packed lunch, although snacks and drinks can be purchased.
Do I need to pay for tea and coffee?
No. Tea and Coffee is free to Service Users. This is covered by money raised from items sold
Is the day service safe?
We aim to provide a safe environment in all areas, to achieve this we work in small groups and use safety gloves and goggles when necessary. The workshop also has full cctv.

Yes and there are many activates to choose from, over the course of a 4 week period we try and allow service users to have a variety of working areas.
Can I choose where I want to work?
Do you have a quiet area?
Yes we have a quiet room at the workshop.
Are you wheelchair assessable?
Yes the workshop and farm can be accessed with a wheelchair, although the jobs at the farm are limited. Unfortunately service users in a wheelchair would not be able to access our shop for work purposes.
Does your transport cater for wheelchair?
Unfortunately not. There are local taxi companies that can assist you.
Are taster sessions offered?
Yes once you have looked around and funding is agreed we will offer you a free taster session.
Do you have a Facebook page?
Yes. We have a Facebook page for the Workshop, The Shop, and The Farm, to keep up to date with daily activities.please like and follow us.
How can I contact you?
Workshop phone number is 023 80338452 and e-mail is specialpw@sspw.co.uk If you decide to join sspw you will be given a list of all our staff phone numbers in case of an emergency. You can also contact us through the website contacts page.
How do I get funding?
Funding can be obtained from Social Services, Direct Payment, Care homes or Personal Budgets.
We charge for 48 weeks per year this is split into 12 monthly invoices. Amount of days per week x 4 weeks = 1 month invoice.
Do I pay if I am not in?
Do you close for staff training?
No. We close for Bank holidays and one week at Christmas. Staff training and meetings are carried out in the evenings.
Do I get to go on trips?
Yes. Trips are decided in the service users bi-monthly meeting, and then a trip list is produced and sent home, if you would like to attend a trip that is on the day you attend sspw, you will need to book the trip in advance.
Is protected clothing provided?
Yes we will provide service users with overalls, gloves and any other protective equipment that is needed, It is also advised to wear old clothes.
Is SSPW a charity?
No we are a limited company.
Can I make a suggestion or complaint?
Yes. See notice board for CCC form in canteen, this form can also be printed from the download section on this website. Or you can submit a form via the contact or home page of this website.
How old do you need to be?
As an adult day service our service users need to be sixteen and over.
